Last year, we invited you to imagine more joy in beautiful Baja Sur. This year, we’ll show you how to manifest it. No hyperbole. No secret. The groundbreaking work of esteemed compassion neuroscientist Jim Doty will guide us to new heights at our 5th annual Made for Joy Gathering. Mind Magic will be the ground for our week of cultivating joy together.
In 2016, inspired by The Book of Joy, a group of friends from disparate backgrounds joined hearts and minds to create a global community focused on joy. Our vision was to design group experiences in nature that would instill a deeper sense of joy – experiences we believed would spark exponential joy in the world. We developed our framework of evidence-based practices to ensure lasting access to inner joy – regardless of outer circumstances. Made for Joy Gatherings have fostered greater well-being ever since, and our greater intention to bring the world closer together continues to flourish.
Set against the backdrop of breathtaking locations, Made for Joy Gatherings are intentional multi-day retreats that expand on the journey of self-discovery and the joy within. Each day is mindfully curated, and expertly led, in immersive reflection, embodied activity, group discussion, connection, learning and a multitude of thoughtful experiences in nature.
Our desired outcome is to inspire connections that lead this community to serve humanity in new ways. And our experiences are rooted in the transformative 11 SEEDS OF JOY framework developed by Made for Joy co-founder Emiliana Rodriguez.
Dr. James Doty is a Stanford neurosurgeon, neuroscientist, compassion researcher, inventor, entrepreneur, author, philanthropist and the founder and director of Stanford’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education. His NYT bestseller, Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart has been translated into over 30 languages and his compassion work has been lauded by the world’s leading technologists in spirit and science including Thich Nhat Hanh, Amma, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Matheiu Ricard, Sharon Salzberg, Adam Grant and Daniel Goleman. In his new book, Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How it Changes Everything, Jim masterfully integrates science and spirit into an actionable prescription for creating a joyful life. As renowned neuropsychologist and author Dr. Rick Hanson suggests, “This could be the best guide ever written to making your dreams come true.”

For six magical days – from the moment you land in Mexico until you fly home – we’ve got you!
Location. Location. Location. You’ll enjoy three unique accommodations – in Todos Santos, Magdalena Bay and Puerto San Carlos – each aligned with our purpose for our experiences – and three delicious meals a day to fortify body, mind and spirit.
Two 3-hour eco-adventures on Magdalena Bay, witnessing the majestic migratory gray whales, and one day where we swim with mythical whale sharks (gentle giants of the sea) and baby sea lions in the Sea of Cortez. We highly recommend these experiences and participants do have the option to relax instead at the hotel or plan private activities (personal cost).
Our typical day starts in nature with the sunrise, intentional practices of meditation or yoga, and nourishing food. The week includes multiple days of learning with Jim, Emiliana and Jacques, music and/or drum circles nightly with Mandi, Yoga with River and a soulful sound bath with Eva and a music event to send us off to our whale adventures. We’ll have a trained naturalist guide with us and you’ll have the option to book private sessions with any of our practitioners. Of course, our environments feature endless beaches, pools, spas and cozy spots to gather.
